Abstract

Domestic violence resulting from alcolism is a serious issue that impact the physical, psychological, social and spiritual well-being of families, while also threatning the integrity of the household. In this context, the Church plays a strategic role through family pastoral care in providing holistic support to famailies in crisis. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of family pastoral care in addressing domestic violence caused by alcoholism, identify supporting and inhibiting factors, and formulate contextual pastoral recommendations. A qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through interviews, observation and documentation within of the Chapel of ease St. Peter Nangarawa (part of St. Joseph Kisol Parish, Diocese of Ruteng). The findings indicate that family pastoral care is reasonably effective in faciliting the recovery of victims through spiritual support, counseling and community involment, despite facing challenges such as limited resources, social stigma and a lack of awareness among perpetrators. The study underscores the importance of srenghtening the capacity of pastoral workers, fostering collaboration with various stakeholders and developing pastoral models that are more responsive and contextual in efforts to prevent and address domestic violence within the Church community.
