Abstract

This study is motivated by the low level of awareness and participation among the congregation in pastoral ministry at St. Rafael Nifubuni Chapel, where involvement tends to be passive and limited to attending liturgical activities. The study aims to identify the role of the congregation and the factors influencing their participation in church life. A qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, followed by descriptive analysis. The results indicate that congregational participation has not developed optimally due to several factors, including limited understanding of the faith, economic demands, lack of pastoral guidance, weak motivation, and limited leadership capacity to mobilize the community. These findings emphasize that increasing congregational participation depends not only on individual awareness but also requires a contextual, focused, and sustainable pastoral approach. The study implies the need to strengthen catechetical programs and provide intensive pastoral accompaniment, enhance the role of leaders as role models, and create broader opportunities for participation, particularly for the younger generation. Such efforts are expected to encourage more active involvement of the congregation in the Church's pastoral ministry and strengthen community life at the chapel.
